Healthy Communities Initiative

Catholic Charities West Virginia

The WellnessWorks Program incorporates the distribution of nutritional food items and written educational materials for individuals with chronic health conditions. This grant enables Catholic Charities to add personal care supplies to the WellnessWorks food pantry in Webster County.

Center Against Violence in Randolph County

The Center Against Violence in Randolph County provides funds for rehabilitation services and medical assistance to adult, teen, and child victims of domestic or sexual violence.

Committee on Aging for Randolph County

Meals for seniors, ages 60 and over, throughout Randolph County from nutrition sites at Randolph County Senior Center in Elkins and satellite locations throughout the county.

Lewis County Family Resource Network

Backpack Buddies, an ongoing program facilitated by the Lewis County FRN, provides child-friendly, nutritious snack packs to school children in need over weekends and holiday breaks.

Lewis County Senior Citizens Center, Inc.

The Lewis County Senior Center provides grab-and-go meals and home-delivered meals for seniors. Due to COVID-19, there have been an increased need for prepared meals.

Libera, Inc.

Libera will deliver the SHIELD program to schools in Barbour and Lewis Counties. The goals of the program are to help children and adolescents disclose abuse, and to connect all students to wellness, body safety, and online safety resources.

Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council

The Senior Companion Program’s main goal is to make independence a reality for those seniors at risk of losing their independence and becoming socially isolated by providing senior volunteers age 55 and over who provide companionship. The MOVRC Foster Grandparent Program’s mission is to enable income eligible individuals 55 years + to volunteer to support services to children having exceptional and/or special needs.

Milan Puskar Health Right

MPHR will provide harm reduction services in Lewis, Randolph, and Upshur Counties. These services include providing clean syringes and supplies, testing for Hepatitis C and HIV, referrals to treatment and peer recovery coach services.

Mountain CAP

Mountain CAP’s Child Advocacy Center will provide Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy training for their in-house therapist.

Nicholas County Family Resource Network

The Child Advocacy Center staff and partners in Webster County will participate in five different types of child abuse related trainings to ensure that this multi-disciplinary team is prepared to provide up-to-date services to children and non-offending caregivers.

Randolph County Family Resource Network

The Randolph County Substance Abuse Coalition will address the lack of supportive services for individuals with substance-use disorders, as well as implement educational trainings to address the lack of understanding surrounding addiction.

Upshur Parish House

The Parish House’s food pantry provides its neighbors with food items, as well as hygiene, feminine, and cleaning/household products, diapers/baby supplies and holiday baskets. In addition, they are providing assistance to families impacted by substance use through a Helpdesk that supplies post-recovery essentials such as water, prescriptions, dental needs, and housing.

Upshur Senior Citizens Center

The Upshur Senior Center will implement a leadership development and team building project to help staff develop skills, boost morale, and pave the way for staff-led initiatives in programming and activities. They will also enhance the current Meals on Wheels program through senior volunteer involvement, updated equipment, and improved data management.

Webster County Health Department

In collaboration with Webster County Memorial Hospital and the nursing staff of Penn. State University, the Health Department will sponsor a Women’s Day Out for the 15th year. The day-long project provides health workshops, mammograms, and other health screenings for women.
