Healthy Communities Initiative

Catholic Charities West Virginia

The WellnessWorks Program incorporates the distribution of nutritious food items and written educational materials for individuals with chronic health conditions. This grant enables Catholic Charities to provide food items for the WellnessWorks food pantries in Randolph and Webster Counties and to expand frozen food storage at the Webster County pantry.

Center Against Violence in Randolph County

The Center Against Violence in Randolph County provides advocacy and legal services, as well as funds for food, rehabilitation services and medical assistance to adult, teen, and child victims of domestic or sexual violence.

Chapel Hill United Methodist Church

One of the ongoing mission projects of this UMC located in Buckhannon is the Wednesday Night Dinners. Church staff and volunteers prepare a hot, nutritious, homemade meal for pick or delivery each Wednesday evening for anyone in the community who needs food.

Lewis County Family Resource Network

This award will provide at least two Try This WV mini-grants for collaborative, community-based health improvement projects in our region.

Lewis County Senior Citizens Center, Inc.

The Lewis County Senior Center provides grab-and-go meals and home-delivered meals for seniors. Due to COVID-19, there have been an increased need for prepared meals.

Marshall University Research Corporation

The Marshall Oral Health Team will continue to implement the West Virginia Wisdom Tooth project. They will partner with senior centers to distribute oral health educational materials and preventative oral health products.

Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Council

The Senior Companion Program’s main goal is to make independence a reality for those seniors at risk of losing their independence and becoming socially isolated by providing senior volunteers age 55 and over who provide companionship.

Milan Puskar Health Right

The LIGHT (Living In Good Health Together) program will provide harm reduction services in Upshur County. These services include providing clean syringes and supplies, testing for Hepatitis C and HIV, as well as referrals to treatment and peer recovery coach services.

Mountain CAP

This grant will enable Mountain CAP’s Child Advocacy Center to hire an additional trauma-informed therapist and support their salary and benefits until their services are billable.

Mountaineer Food Bank

Mountaineer Food Bank will provide Fresh Initiative kids’ markets at schools in Webster and Lewis Counties. The grant will also support the work of a summer intern to research a potential medically-indicated food box program in Upshur County.

New Vision Renewable Energy

New Vision operates a community center for at-risk youth in the Chestnut Ridge section of Barbour County. This grant will support tele-health services and transportation costs for children who visit the center.

Nicholas County Family Resource Network

The Child Advocacy Center in Webster County will provide gas cards and funding for food, clothes, and shoes for families in need who utilize the CAC.

The Committee on Aging for Randolph County

This grant will enable the senior center to provide congregate, grab-and-go, and home-delivered meals to eligible senior citizens across Randolph County.

Tucker County Family Resource Network

FRN home visitation staff in Barbour and Randolph Counties will participate in a health and wellness program.

Upshur Parish House

This grant provides funding for the Parish House’s annual budget for food for its food pantry in Upshur County.

West Virginia Food and Farm Coalition, Inc.

In partnership with Randolph County farmers, the WV Food and Farm Coalition will create farm space at Pickens School and provide entrepreneurial education on agricultural production and sale of the products grown at the schools.

West Virginia Hemophilia Foundation

Consultation services with the West Virginia Oral Health Coalition will develop the capacity of local dentists to provide dental treatment to individuals with hemophilia.

Training will be provided to five primary care providers in our region to become qualified to screen for Hepatitis C and treat patients with Hepatitis C.
